Trail Tenders volunteer their time and talents to improve the many miles of walking and biking trails in Shawano County. Some of these individuals do routine trail maintenance alone or with several other people without needing prior approval or signing a waiver. Tasks may include trimming brush, picking up debris on the trail, sweeping bridges, filling in holes, and cleaning shelters. (please, no chain saws!)
It is very important that any serious issue on the trail be reported immediately to the Shawano County parks department (these projects may include bridge or approach repair, shelter improvement, trail grading, signage, etc.) For major projects, all participants MUST sign a waiver. The POINT of CONTACT person will follow-up with proper protocol including project approval, informing proper authorities, and filing a progress report.
Membership in Friends of the Mountain Bay Trail-Shawano County is strongly encouraged. Volunteers are also encouraged to purchase a high-visibility Trail Tender shirt ($10) for safety and identification purposes. Trail Tender flags may be issued for specific tasks.
